I wondered many of times... will Tesla leverage their knowledge of vehicle safety to start their own insurance program? Why not give Tesla the premiums? They can provide rangers parts immediately upon claims.

When Tesla does something, they remove all the friction they can to ensure users have the best experience possible. Shopping around for insurance, putting in claims, it’s all a pool of money that changes hands to support parts and service.

I am confident that Tesla’s insurance will:

  • Be cost competitive
  • Be very easy to switch to
  • Provide superior (through the app) service
  • Superior coverage in terms of happenstance

Last year I gave my insurance company $1200. I submitted no claim. It was $1200 of pure profit to a company. I see no reason why I would oppose giving this money to Tesla for comparable coverage. How awesome would it be if my insurance rates even went down?
